In the late 19th century and the early 20th century, the area of BPC was known as Little Syria with Greeks and other ethnic groups. In 1966, the area was reclaimed by the that-time governor for the project named as ‘Battery Park City’.
Then in 1968, Battery Park City Authority (BPCA) came into being to look after the area and its development. Back in 1998, BPCA started providing subsidies to the residents of BPA to attract more middle-class families. People whose annual income was $108,000 or less were given this subsidy.
The 9/11 incident deeply affected the residents of Battery Park City. Most of the places were labelled as part of crime-scene and people were forced to leave their apartments. However, the construction and development started rapidly in BPC after the WTC incident.
Most of the buildings in BPC are tall and full of luxurious facilities.
